Homeowners Town Hall

It’s all fun and games until someone raises the monthly dues.  I attended my first homeowners town hall today.

Airstream in Da House

Airstreams are rare around these parts. There was a 16 or 19 foot Bambi in the park today.

Smart RV

I’m a big fan of the WiOn line of remote WiFi power adapters.  I added one to a fan in the bedroom and I can now turn the fan on/off from my phone.

Extreme Refrigeration

Because two people need to have 115 cans of cold soda at all times...

Testing Solar

So we tested our solar yesterday.  In full sun, my Boulder 100 panels were generating between 72-76 watts, which I understand is about the max I could expect.  An old fan I was using to keep cool connected to my Yeti 400 solar generator was consuming 122 watts.

I need a new fan.

Happy Anniversary Genny!

On this day one year ago we bought our Champion 3500 inverter generator.  Have only needed it once.  And we had it.

There’s an App

There’s an app for almost everything.  Sun Surveyor tells me the position of the sun relative to my position for optimal solar panel placement.

Or, I could have looked up at the sky.  Either way, I have 4 hours of good sun per day at the Airstream before the trees throw too much shade. This could be a problem...

Going Solar

With several storms coming this way, I decided to bite the bullet and complete some pending purchases, mainly my Boulder 100BC solar panel and a Guardian 12V charge controller.  The controller will let me charge most 12V batteries with the solar panel.

Trimmed the Trees

Here’s the before and after of our tree trimming effort. Doesn’t look like much but the top of the Aurstream seems safer.

Next Project

77 days until our next Airstream adventure, so it’s time to fill those weekends with honey-do items.  First up, I need to remove some branches that hang over the top of my Airstream as they are almost touching the roof and probably depositing ants and crap up there.  My solution?  Take my brand new Telesteps 14ES telescoping ladder out for a spin along with a nifty branch clipper with a 16 foot handle.  That ought to be long enough..

Counting the Days

I found this cute little app that will count the days until a specific date.  So I’ve planned my next three outings in my Airstream and am counting the days...

Time to Leave, Part 2

Thus comes to an end our 10 day adventure.  Stay tuned for our next adventure in 3 months when we head on over to Hilton Head, South Carolina!

Bigger Blower

We’re big fans of Stihl blowers.  I’ve had the BG50 for almost two years and it served me well.   But my inner Tim Allen has always wanted the BG86 C-E.  It’s the biggest, most powerful handheld Stihl makes.  So my brother-in-law got a new (to him) BG50 and I got me a brand spanking new BG86 C-E.

Arghhh arghhh arghhh...

The BG86 C-E has a more powerful motor to create a more powerful air stream. It also has the Easy2Start feature which makes it easier to start (but not easy enough for my wife to start apparently).  It has a couple of other improvements over the BG50, such as a nicer grip, trigger lock, two types of nozzles and a feature to prevent fuel flooding.  Overall I’m very happy with the upgrade.

A word of caution though.  Do NOT buy the Stihl Motomix fuel.  They charge you $32 for a gallon of what is essentially a $4 gallon of non-ethanol fuel and $2 of oil.  Apparently mixing these for you is worth $26 to then.  No sir. Buy the fuel and mix it yourself.  That’s not worth $26.

Bigger Ladder

We’re big fans of the Telesteps ladders.  We have the 10ES and 12ES.  I gave the 12ES to my brother in law and I got the 14ES.  It will be a little more comfortable to reach the roof of the Airstream.
