New Vehicle

So I got a new vehicle.

No, it's not the truck.

My Plans Have Been Thwarted

It is no secret that I am a closeted redneck.  Yes, I like trucks.  Despite having owned Mercedes, Corvette, etc., my favorite car of all time was my Ford Raptor.  And I was disappointed when my condo association sent out a letter saying they were enforcing a parking rule that said your car had to fit inside your parking space.

Well, my Raptor didn't.

My parking space is an anemic 215" long.  Covered parking spaces are supposed to be 240" long, but whoever built this place apparently didn't get the memo.  My Raptor was 232.1" long.

So, apparently, are all other 1/2 ton trucks.  The Tundra is 228.9".  The F-150 is 232".

So, I am denied my truck.

My Escalade, which was purchased because it could tow 8000+ pounds, is only 202.5" long.  So all the similar vehicles (Yukon, Tahoe, Expedition, Navigator, etc.), all those fit.  Not the extended length ones though.  Those are 220" long.

So my only option is to park my truck on the 8th floor (uncovered) and take the elevator down to my floor.  That is the one thing I dislike more than not having a truck.

We're Back

We're back at the ranch. Came back early.  I'm so happy to be back.  There just is no comparison.  We love our RV park.  This presents a unique challenge.  Unless we find another RV park we enjoy visiting, we're probably are not going to go out much.

Something similar happened during our boating years.  The last 5 years we spent then at the Marriott Marina in downtown Tampa, and in that time we took the boat out probably five times.  There just was no point in going anywhere.  We were already there.  Best marina ever.  Floating docks, hotel services, right in downtown.

Even though the ranch is far away from civilization, the Westgate hotel services available are excellent.  We love our shade and our privacy.  We love coming here every weekend and hanging out.

Oh well.  Next stop is Fort DeSoto in November.  We'll see how that one goes.  I'm not optimistic.

I had Achiote leftovers for breakfast this morning, and we made it back to the ranch in time to do lunch at our grill.  Boneless ribs, tilapia, mashed sweet potatoes and cornbread stuffing.  Now I'm sitting here in one of my recliners typing this and I think I'm done for the day.

Stovetop First Use

Used the stove top for the first time today.  It looks like it had never been used. I had to heat some water and milk to make some mashed sweet potatoes.  They turned out fantastic!

And this is why I prefer to eat out.

Achiote Restaurant

I wasn't very impressed with Jetty Park. Which explains why I drove one hour to Orlando to have lunch at Achiote Restaurant.

The best Puerto Rican restaurant I've ever been at.  Period.

Grill2Go Works

Well, the Grill2Go works.  We were hungry when we got here so I threw some ribs and salmon on the Barbie.

We Got Here

Well, we got here.   It's a nice enough park.  I'm not sure it's nicer than our home park.  But at least we got out.

On our way to Jetty Park

We're on our way to Jetty Park.  We stopped by the CAT scales on the way.  This being our first trip, we were loaded as if we were going on a trip, because we were.

My rear axle limit is 4200.  We're at 4140.  We left our two bikes which weigh 60 pounds.  Could have brought them. :)

I have a few hundred pounds to spare towing wise.  Fantastic.

Making Preparations

This weekend were making our first trip with the Airstream.  We're headed to Jetty Park.  It's only a couple of hours away but we made a long weekend out of it, and we'll be testing our "travel readiness".  Looking forward to it.

Now that I have the grilling gene, I got the Charbroil Grill2Go packed and ready to go on our first trip with the Airstream since we brought it down from New Jersey.

Yum, Part 2

Got some pork ribs, tilapia, asparagus, tomatoes and bread grilling. It's going to be hard to lose weight this week.

Getting Ready

Getting ready for another grilling weekend.  Beef, chicken, pork ribs, tilapia and veggies.  And spices to match.

A Portable Grill

My campsite grill was such a hit, we decided to bite the bullet and get a portable one for when we travel.  I had decided on a Weber Q1200 but when I went to buy it, I saw this.

A Charbroil Grill2Go with Infrared technology.  I got it at Amazon.  My campsite grill also has this infrared thing, and having experienced it I'm a believer.  We go out weekend after next so we'll see how it goes.

Slow News Day

Now that we have a fully functioning grill, it's time to host some friends.  We have them coming over this weekend and have some kabobs planned.

In other news, I lost my set of Airstream keys.  I have a backup, but the special forces motto "two is one, and one is none" applies here.  I've looked for them everywhere.  I'll look at the trailer one more time, and then it's off to the locksmith to make me a new set.

We have no repairs planned or pending, no upgrades, nothing.  I like it. Airstream is 100%.  Weekend after next we take our first trip with the Airstream since we brought it from New Jersey.  We're headed to Jetty Park.    Looking forward to it.

So we finally got to use the grill.  Filet and chicken and veggie kabobs, asparagus, bread.  And some salads from Publix.  It was a hit.   I'm so glad we got this grill.  Now we can plan to eat at our site more often.

Got Rained Out

I got the grill, but got rained out tonight.  I bought some nice filet mignon kabobs from the local market, some asparagus and tomatoes to grill.  Postponed until tomorrow.

Selecting a Grill

Selecting a grill is a pretty hot topic in the Internet forums.  I am not a grill expert, but I know what I like.  I am not looking for something portable to take with me while camping.  I just want a simple grill to use at my home campsite.  So I've narrowed my search to Charbroil.  I used to own one when I had a house and it served me well.  I think I will go with a two burner model this time.

In the Middle of the Night

Why oh why do smoke detector batteries ALWAYS fail in the middle of the night?  That annoying beep is enough to drive anyone insane.  Thankfully it's an easy fix.

Fixed the Table

The dinette table leg was too long.  It made the table sit at an angle.  And it drove me nuts.  So I went to Lowes and got a saw, and sawed off 3/4" off the leg.

Now all is well with the universe again.
